What to Expect as a Family Caregiver for Aging Parents

Many adult children who are concerned about and caring for aging parents do not identify themselves as family caregivers; however, this is a unique phase of life. It is helpful to expect this role and time of life to be challenging. If you prepare to deal with the physical, practical, and emotional aspects of caring for an aging parent, your quality of life will greatly improve.

Studies have shown that the stress of family caregiving can be overwhelming. You can expect to face a great deal of stress in the months and years ahead. Working with your problem list, try and get as much professional help as possible. If you choose to work through your problems alone, your stress will be unnecessarily difficult. Care Support of America’s healthcare consulting can also help you communicate with your parents’ doctors and your family members. Divide the labor, build in break times, and always look ahead with long-term solutions for what is probable in the future.
